Vintage and Dime Boxes - What A Day at the Card Show! (Part Two)

When you blow the majority of your budget on two vintage beauties, the only place to go is to the dime boxes:

I've visited this particular vendor several times and was starting to see all the same stuff, but it looks like he re-stocked for this particular show.
there was a nice variety of brands and years
See? Not all 1992 Fleer cards are bad...

These were a little more than a dime,  but didn't break the bank. Turns out I already had the Rickey Henderson Hologram, if anyone is interested...

Let's turn back the clock, shall we? I had to go after a little more vintage, though (I still had cash in my wallet):

The vintage guy bought a huge lot of 51 Topps red backs (enough for one full set and lots of doubles) at the card show in Raleigh, so I was able to pick out a few lower grade ones to check off my list. Really happy to find a Monte Irvin rookie that was so affordable!

...and how about one more '56 for the road?

It's great how often the pitchers get to run the bases in that set! I also made a trade with another collector at the show, that's a post for another day.

  1. The Tombstone cards have been popping up on the blogs a lot recently. I dig the food cards.

    1. When I was a kid I had a ton of them- I was trying to get the Puckett one. We ate a lot of crappy pizza at my house because I pretended it was my favorite brand...I think it is part of why my sister became a vegetarian!

    2. Ha! The things we do for cards. I remember thinking that eating at Denny's was a treat. In actuality I think I just knew I was going to get cards when we paid the bill.

    3. To this day anytime I see someone eating string cheese of think of Mootown Snackers and the baseball cards that came with them.

I know the players' union thinks they're making enough money, but if they ever want to agree to a few food card deals I would be all for it.

    4. Agreed. Although for my own health I'm glad that I can't get cards with a box of Twinkies (or I guess cigarettes, too) anymore.

  2. That Irvin is great! I second the hope for more food releases in the future(though I think it's doubtful).

  3. I second that on Irvin. Love the food issues too, and I still Like Dennys (every now and again).

    1. Perfect - I will add it to the thing I am sending your way. I am trying to figure out the best way to pack it up for its trans-atlantic journey!
