The Nightmare is Over . . .

Welp, the Twins just had the worst season since moving to Minnesota.

Brian Dozier had an incredible 2nd half, became just the second Minnesota Twin to hit 40+ homers in a season.

The starting pitching was bad. Bad, bad, bad, BAD.

The bullpen was not much better.

Kennys Vargas, my favorite Twin, was stuck behind Joe Mauer and Byung-ho Park on the depth chart. An unfortunate injury to Park, and lingering issues for Joe gave Kennys a little bit of playing time, he finished with 10 homers in 2016.

Miguel Sano had a tough time this year, but managed to hit 25 homers in an up and down season.

Byron Buxton's season was even more up and down - he literally was sent down to AAA twice before being called back up.

59-103.

I feel the same way, pal.

Now, if you don't mind, I've got to stare out the window until Spring.

  1. Rough season. But the Twins are in line for the #1 pick, plus a competitive balance pick. After free agent compensation picks are handed out the Twins are looking at three picks in the top 50 or so. Silver Lining?

BTW, there's room on the Cubs band wagon if you're still in need of a club to cheer for this post season. After 100+ years of futility I'll take all the help I can get rooting them on!

    1. It might be better luck if I root for the other guys!

  2. Congrats on the first overall draft pick next year. Doing worse than the 2016 Reds and Braves should be a proud proud achievement.

  4. Tough year for the Twins but there's lots of building blocks with Sano, Buxton, and Dozier - who might have just had the quietest great season in my lifetime. I've always been a Joe Mauer fan but I worry that his best days are behind him. And the Twins gotta get some pitching!

At least it cant get worse, right? Too much talent there to be a 100-loss team again next year.

    1. Depends on the pitching, that has to be better than this year. The new team president was a big part of the Cleveland pitching rebuild, hope he can repeat it in MN.

  5. Both of my teams sucked this year too. At least you guys got the first pick. Enjoy the offseason.

    1. yeah, it's been rough! It's never too early to start thinking about 2017 now that the 2016 regular season is over.

  6. The Pirates were treading water all year. The good thing is the lineup is fine. We just need to find a reliable starting pitcher. They gambled on to many reclamation projects at the same time.

The Twins have a good base, but they've been cursed lately with pitchers. Hopefully Berrios figures it out.

    1. Too many free agent reaches by the Twins - thankfully most of those contracts are over now (Pelfrey, Correia, Nolasco, etc. etc.) Hoping for a healthy Phil Hughes, Glen Perkins, and Trevor May in 2017.
