Gotta start somewhere

Over the weekend I started sorting my collection by teams, to try to make sense of it all. I want to be able to find items for trade faster, and to make some room for new things.

I managed to find one box full of the very first cards I collected, and they were in pretty terrible shape:

The scan doesn't really do justice to the number of creases and dings. But I think I'm going to hang on to these, as they mean more to me than I'm sure they would to the landfill.

When I started collecting 1965 O-Pee-Chee, the first thing I bought was an eBay lot of about 50 cards, half of them from '65. Some were in great condition, others not so much, I've replaced several of them with sharper versions, but there's one I think I'm going to keep:

 That's pretty amazing, no?

I don't know why anyone would want to part with this 1/1 Brooks Robinson "Spaceman" Parallel.

Every collection has to start somewhere - do you still have any of the first cards you collected?

  1. I like Brooks devil beard and martian antennas.

  3. I laughed out loud when I saw the card- it was an easy decision to bid on it, even though I knew it wasn't going to be the last one I would end up buying.

  4. I like the Robinson too, Id have to hang on to it just for the memory and the smile it gives you every time you look at it.

    2. That's great John, I appreciate it. I've been setting things aside that might fit for your collection too.

  5. I've still got my first bunch. They're stored in one of those old cardboard lockers you could order from OPC hockey. I've been meaning to photograph it and make a post.

Don't have any like the Brooks, but there are a couple we stuffed in a typewriter to add "Now with (insert team)" the way OPC used to update players.

    1. The typewriter sounds like a great idea (to my childhood self) - I wish I had thought of that.
I used to "autograph" some of my doubles to make them look "cooler"- I did toss those out though, I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to pass them off as legitimate autographs.
