My Twins FrankenSet - Page 6

I've seen a few FrankenSets out there - for example John has a Braves set and a Uniform Number Set, Tom has a Cubs set, Nick has the Dime Box FrankenSet, Robert has a serial numbered card set, Night Owl has a night card set. Jeff's got a White Sox FrankenSet. I'm sure there are many others. Tell me about yours in the comments!

I decided this would be a good way to at least start organizing my Twins cards.

My own "rules" for the set are pretty simple -
1. Each card should be a Twins player in a Twins uniform (and exclude multi-team cards)
2. If at all possible, each page should have 9 unique players and 9 unique sets
3. Have Fun (Mandatory)

Here's Page 6:
 The backs:

46 - Kent Hrbek 1992 O-Pee-Chee Premiere
47 - Rod Carew 1994 Ted Williams Co.
48 - Torii Hunter 2002 Topps Stadium Club
49 - Joe Mauer 2008 Upper Deck Series 2 Starquest "UnCommon"
50 - Kirby Puckett 2005 Upper Deck Past Time Pennants
51 - Harmon Killebrew 1972 Topps
52 - Paul Molitor 2013 Topps Museum Collection
53 - Johan Santana 2006 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Update
54 - Sam Mele 1964 Topps

There we go, another page, some variety of new and old... I think my favorite on this page is Torii's Bat Flip.

  1. Kent Hrbek looks like someone who would dominate a beer league softball game.

    1. Absolutely - I think he's had that look since '86 or so. He's still a local legend - he had (has?) a weekly outdoorsman TV show called "Kent Hrbek Outdoors" which was basically him fishing and hunting and drinking with his buddies. I think if he didn't make it to the big leagues he would be that guy on the softball team that just crushes homers but runs like a refrigerator that's still plugged into the wall and looks like, well, Kent Hrbek.

  2. That Ted Williams Rod Carew was one of the first Carew cards I ever owned, and it's still one of my favorites of his.

    1. It's a pretty iconic shot of Carew preparing to wreak havoc on the opposition with a perfectly placed bunt single. I was lucky to find quite a few good Carew cards to put in the Frankenset.

  3. I think I need to start a Reds Frankenset after reading about not only Nick's dimebox frankenset, but now your Twins one as well.

    1. It's a lot of fun to put together, plus it forced me to manage and sort my collection again, which is never a bad thing.
And as Jeff from 2X3 Heroes has pointed out - it's a great way to find a home for your doubles!

  4. 2002 Stadium Club? Is that the first bat flip on cardboard?

Also, that Killebrew is awesome. Bat barrel and a batting cage. EPIC.

    1. Yeah, Killebrew wins most of the Frankenset decisions - he for the most part has had some fantastic cards over the years.

I would like to know if that's the first bat flip captured, I think there are a couple Torii cards similar to that one, and I know The bat flip has been around for quite some time. Rickey Henderson and Reggie Jackson had some pretty great ones - that would be a nice challenge for Topps to get some vintage bat flips in next year's Stadium Club...

  5. That Killewbrew takes the bat by the barrel, if you know what I mean.
