Date: Saturday. Destination: Card Show

Saturday is Card Show Day in this neck of the woods. These are actually from two weeks ago, I can't get out to the show this weekend, too much life going on.
So - this is a little tease for a project I'm slowly working on. It will either be a series on this blog, or a blog all on its own. A tribute to my favorite cardboard from the 1980s - I am planning on putting together a page for each team for each year starting in 1981 with the end of the Topps Monopoly.
I do still dabble in 70s cards as well - That's a pretty sweet Frank Robinson card. 1975 SSPC cards were few and far between at the show, but I did find these.
O-Pee-Chee! Especially for Expos and Blue Jays, I'll be looking to fill my "I love the 80s" binder with OPC for Canadian teams.
I couldn't pass up the chance to pick up these 70s guys as well. I just noticed that I picked up 3 Jim Rice cards at the show, he must have been underrated and underrepresented in my collection (or these are all doubles and I haven't kept my lists updated!)
 Scoops!
Not quite a bat flip, though I am guessing Teddy Ballgame would be a master at that if he played in the recent era.
Rounding it out with this classic piece of cardboard history.
here are the backs, squint if you have to!
I also picked up a bunch of Twins, here's a small sampling. Sano is numbered 25/50, I'm hoping he starts hitting some out soon (it's still early!).

  1. Three Rice's. You would almost think you were a Bosox fan. And a Teddy W.

    1. It turns out they were all new Jim Rice cards, but I already had the 79 Fisk. The one I got at the show is in better condition though, so I'll pretend that I meant to do that...

  2. Those Baseball Scoops cards are always tough to turn down. I'd never heard that White Sox ejection story before either. Cool and informative? That's always a winning combo.

    1. I was immediately drawn to that card, even though it was on the same page as the other two, much more famous players / milestones.

  3. That 80s project sounds fun. Looking forward to reading it. Also, those Wille Stargell cards are great, 73 is my second favorite set of the 70s.

    1. 73 really went crazy for the horizontal cards. Stargell, Frank Robinson with the Dodgers, even future Twins hitting coach Terry Crowley has a great one in the set.

    1. Yeesh. It's way too cold for ice cream up here. I just hope it doesn't snow during the home opener on Monday.

    1. You should have lots to choose from, I bet it's considered a common from that set.

  6. I absolutely love those Scoops cards. I get giddy if I find one at a show, much less three like you did. Love the Sox one in particular!

    1. yeah man - got a scanner a couple months ago actually, I justified it because it is also a printer and a copier, which I need every once in awhile. I use the scanner part just about every day for the blog, but I guess I still needed another reason...
