A 1964 Venezuelan Topps Update - Braves

I've been able to find a few lots of 1964 Venezuelan Cards - here are a bunch of Bravos.

I will probably want to replace that Joe Torre at some point, but at first I am going to be adding these cards to my set in any condition. Who knows if I'll be able to find a good replacement?

There was no Hank Aaron in this lot, so I will still need to acquire that big one at some point, there were a few big ones, though:
ALOU!!!! All three Alou brothers are in the Venezuelan set, I'm 1/3 done with that subset now.
As you can see, these backs are rough, rough, rough. Ed Mathews is pretty clean on the front, it is tempting to say that it will be good enough for the final set until you see all the paper loss on the back. Then again, I might not see one in better shape that is affordable.

That's the game you play with these super rare cards!

  1. So are the black backs the only differences? Nice Mathews regardless of paper loss

    1. Pretty much - it's a different card stock, and the little cartoon is visible without rubbing it with a coin - The Felipe Alou that you posted should have an orange back and the cartoon will either be visible or not depending on whether someone rubbed on it.
The difference set-wise is that the last card in the Venezuelan set is #370; the regular Topps Set goes on quite a bit longer.

    2. Aha thanks, well I will look out for black backed '64s from now on. My Alou is not scratched although I was tempted to do so.

  2. Great stuff, like you said these are rare enough that any condition is a great start. If you ever end up with a dupe from an upgraded Red Sox card look me up!

    1. Absolutely! The Red Sox have all slipped through my fingers so far, but I'll be looking at a few eBay auctions again this weekend to see if I can get some more lots to beef up this starter set.

  3. Love these. I wasn't even aware of them until I stumbled across the Billy Pierce from this set. I'm picking up a couple of Venezuelan Topps 1960s to sort of compliment my 1960 regular set.
