This time I went with a box of 1995 Upper Deck Minors. I have seen cards from this set floating around, but these are the first I've had in hand before. The front is just like the regular major league issue from 1995, with a nice swooping line separating player and team name / position.
These glossy, full-bleed photo cards seem to have avoided the fate of many Topps Stadium Club issues and did not clump in a sticky, paper tearing, surface flaking mess.
Each pack had a parallel "Future Stock" card (sort of like electric diamond parallels - just a little extra foil):
The subsets within included:
my favorite card back of the cards I pulled:
and some wonderful, terrific names:
I liked these quite a bit - there were doubles and triples of some cards. If you have a team you collect and want to add some 95 UD Minors cards to your collection, let me know! I want to keep Jordan, Jeter, and some of the other minor stars, but there should be something fun for every team.
Two Jordan cards out of the box? That alone makes it a winner. I remember chasing after those hard when I was a kid - being a kid in Chicago, it was impossible.
ReplyDeleteThat was pretty exciting to see them in there. I have to say I was pretty pleased overall with the number of quality major leaguers that came out of the packs. I was expecting to get mostly failed prospects, but it was a fairly strong checklist.
DeleteThe Jordans are also great for me because I want to do a mini-collection of not-famous-for-baseball players on baseball cards.. Jordan being one of the more famous ones, along with guys like Ricky Williams, Russell Wilson, Danny Ainge, etc.
One of my favorites is a New York Yankees pitcher by the name of John Elway!
ReplyDeleteYeah! That card is one that is on the list of "If I ever win the lottery . . . "
DeleteI actually have it! and it cost me $0!!

Oh that's cool - I didn't realize there was recent issue of John Elway in a Yankees uniform - I was referring to the 1982 TCMA minor league team set card from the Oneonta Yankees - http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/371156998133?lpid=82&chn=ps
Delete95 Upper Deck was excellent in general. That was my first and is still my favorite Wonderful Terrific card. Does Motorboat Jones have a card in this set?
ReplyDeleteOh man - Motorboat Jones? If he does have one, I (sadly) did not pull it...
DeleteThat's a really great product! I'm a big fan of the design. I remember chasing the Jordans and the Jeters in my younger days.
