1978 OPC Wax Pack

Last week I had a big success opening a pack of 1979 O-Pee-Chee. This time it was a little less lucky, but no less fun.  I actually opened these quite a while ago, but I didn't have a blog then... so...

The two pocket page, by the way, is great for displaying vintage wax wrappers.

Just like the 1979 edition, 1978 O-pee-chee has 10 cards. And it also had a stick of gum.
The gum was stuck to the back of the Roy Hartsfield card, I lost a little bit of paper at the bottom of the card, but the gum came off pretty easily otherwise. Pedro Borbon was the card with wax from the wrapper, the stain was not too bad, and most of the residue came off.
Jim Spencer has an updated front - listing him as a Yankee but using the same photo as the Topps issue. I flipped the Ellis Valentine card to show the OPC back - the color was not consistent on all the backs, but generally the cards from 1978 have a lighter tint compared to Topps.

All the cards shown are available for trade - I didn't get any Twins, and I didn't get the Eddie Murray I was hoping to pull. I think the cards are all pretty cool. O-pee-chee had serious centering and cutting issues, you can see how a lot of these are off-center and/or have jagged edges.

I opened the second pack of 1978 OPC and did a little better on that pack-  the Mike Schmidt I pulled is already on its way out to a Phillies fan in one of my first trades, so I can't show that scan.

Have you opened any vintage wax? Does it seem like a waste, or is it worth it to you to have the thrill?

Temptation

I purchased some sealed vintage wax packs awhile back - Here's one of 1979 O-Pee-Chee

There are ten cards to a pack, I just know there's a Met in this one. I'm very tempted to bust it open and see what other cards might be in there! It's very hard to resist, so thankfully I bought two. Here's what I saw when I opened the pack:

Two cards get eaten by gum and wax, respectively, so here's most of the pack. I think Joaquin is my favorite, I'm a fan of the rainbow sunrise Astros uniforms...

But

wait

what's

this?
I have to say that I never, ever, ever, get the "hit" in a pack or box of packs. Pulling Ozzie's Rookie card is definitely the best card I've ever gotten out of a pack in my life. Sweet sideburns, dude.

I'm less tempted to open that other pack now.

I'm geared more towards vintage, so this made me happier than if I had pulled a relic or auto - what is the best pack you've ever opened? Is there any single card that made you do a little happy dance?
