Clearly a Future Ace

Another quick phone post- I have been trying to see as many Twins games as possible before Joe Mauer calls it a career. José Berríos made his final appearance of 2018 this afternoon, striking out 10.
The game was originally scheduled to be played in April, but snow and rain along with high winds postponed the matchup until today.

Berríos picked up the win, his 12th of the season, and became the first Twins pitcher to surpass 200 strikeouts since Francisco Liriano in 2010.

  1. Has Mauer officially announced his retirement? If so... it's a sad day. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching him play over the years. On the other hand, I love that he stuck around with the Twins his entire career. Don't see that very often anymore.

    1. He has not officially announced it, but that seems to be what is happening. He has said he will be making the decision in the off-season along with his wife. He's been making several curtain calls and tipping his cap during this final homestand.

    2. Looking forward to watching both him and David Wright get their final standing ovations tomorrow.

  2. Yeah, Mauer is one of the greats. I have much respect for a guy who spends his entire career in one uniform.

I really like Berrios. He had some real clunkers this year, but overall a very solid year.
