A New Kennys Vargas Card!
Kennys Vargas spent 2019 in Japan, playing for the Chiba Lotte Marines... and their minor league affiliate. Despite a disappointing season, Vargas has been featured on at least three cards in the 2019 BBM set.
Here's the back of the card, featuring the MLB stats of Vargas, along with his AAA numbers from 2018. I haven't been able to snag his series 2 card from the BBM set yet, the only listing on eBay is a lot of 8 copies of the card. I just need one!

I checked if Mint had anything Vargas related, apparently Vargas had an EPOCH One (the Topps Now equivalent put out by EPOCH) and a booklet dual auto with Brandon Laird for $300, ouch. https://www.mint-mall.net/products/list.php?transactionid=25aaf3461c75d60a78fd3acfabf23d308f233d08&mode=search&name=%E3%83%90%E3%83%AB%E3%82%AC%E3%82%B9
ReplyDeleteYikes! Thanks for checking on that for me.
DeleteSo just to clarify - the card you have here is one of two cards Vargas had in the base set of BBM's Marines team set. He only has two other BBM base set cards I know about - the 1st Version you already have and one in 2nd Version. The dual autographed card Zippy Zappy mentioned is from the BBM Marines team set - there's also an autographed card available from that set featuring just him. I don't know of any other Japanese cards of him (base, parallel, autographed or memorabilia) other than the Epoch One card Zippy Zappy mentioned.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, thanks for the info! That explains why the card is numbered M79. M for Marines.
DeleteHe may not have had a great season, but at least you got a colorful card out of it!
