Ok, so I had a few more oddball cards from the last card show to talk about, but I don't know what they are!
So the Randy Johnson and the Brett are pretty easy to identify as Topps cards. The Kirby is a 1989 Broder Preview Card... But what the heck is this Griffey Hologram?
Here's the back:
So..... 1992 Arena Holograms. The Back is a story about Griffey playing baseball against a team of Dogs?
TJ - help me out here. Have you seen this before? Do you need this card? It was too strange to not buy it.
What an oddball!
ReplyDeleteI wish the guy had more of them, but there was just card #2
DeleteI do have that one! It's from a 5-card set that showcases Griffey's all-around awesomeness. They are titled Speed, Power, Defense, The Kid, and Superstar. I like them because they are illustrated holograms where most of the holos that came out in the 90's are pictures (Denny's style). They're pretty high-quality.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to all of them: http://www.comc.com/Cards,se,=griffey+1992+arena
They're not very expensive, either. You should complete the set!
Whew! Mystery solved. Thanks! I wonder if this little 5 card hologram set is the only thing they made... They have "Series One" on the back, but I noticed there weren't any other Arena brand baseball cards on COMC for 1992.
DeleteI'm pretty sure they did make other cards, but these seem to be the most prolific based on what I've seen.
Delete"....a 5-card set that showcases Griffey's all-around awesomeness"
ReplyDeleteWhere is the 5 card set that showcases MY awesomeness?
I still want to know why he's playing baseball with dogs. Does Scruff McGruff have any bite on his fastball?
ReplyDeleteWell according to his uniform he plays for a team called the "Griffey Jrs." in a league called the Universal League, so maybe these are like super smart alien dogs. I suppose Crime Dog Fred McGriff is an honorary member along with O-Dog Orlando Hudson?
DeleteDon't forget Lance "One Dog" Johnson. I suppose Red "Ruff"ing can start too.
DeleteOr Randy Wolf?
