My Twins Frankenset: Page 12

I've seen a few FrankenSets out there - for example John has a Braves set and a Uniform Number Set, Tom has a Cubs set, Nick has the Dime Box FrankenSet, Robert has a serial numbered card set, Night Owl has a night card set. Jeff's got a White Sox FrankenSet. I'm sure there are many others. Tell me about yours in the comments!

I decided this would be a good way to at least start organizing my Twins cards.

My own "rules" for the set are pretty simple -
1. Each card should be a Twins player in a Twins uniform (and exclude multi-team cards)
2. If at all possible, each page should have 9 unique players and 9 unique sets
3. Have Fun (Mandatory)

Here's Page 12:

 and the backs

100: Kirby Puckett 1994 Topps Gold
101: Francisco Liriano 2009 Bowman Chrome Blue Refractor
102: Denard Span 2013 Topps Red
103: Jack Morris 2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces Black Frame
104: Brad Radke 2002 Upper Deck Vintage
105: Rod Carew 2005 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites
106: David Ortiz 1999 Pacific Aurora
107: Joe Mauer 2013 Topps Photo Variation
108: Chuck Knoblauch 1997 Pinnacle Museum Collection

ooooook. I know I need to make a change on this page. I've got two 2013 Topps Cards, so I'm going to have to replace either Denard or Joe with something else. But in the meantime, I'm pretty happy with the way this page turned out. The Rod Carew Double Dip is a thing of beauty.

This Trade was a Real Hoot

Greg (Night Owl Cards) sent over a team bag full of awesome things!
 Super Dave!
 Tiny stamps!
Hughes pitched two innings of relief last night perfect save for serving up a Phil Hughes special, AKA a monster home run. He's had a rough second season in Minnesota, but that's about right for Phil, great season followed by a clunker. Here's hoping for a strong 2016!
Barry is having a fun retirement (check him out on social media, he's pretty much killing it).

Early 90's Fleer! I needed all of these.
The first year of Triple Play had some great junk wax gems.
If the Twins can figure out how to stop another losing streak, they still might be able to squeak into the wild card. Molitor is probably one of the favorites (along with Joe Maddon) for manager of the year.
The Rat and America's Sweetheart, Kent Hrbek!

Thanks Greg, these were great!

Let's Play Two

The Twins and the Angels are locked in a heated battle today, a double header following last night's rainout.

I had just enough time to catch the smaller card show this a.m. before heading back home to catch game 1.
The card shop that hosts the show had some 2015 Minors Heritage, so I went for a pair of three 2015 releases, trying to get some subject matter for posts later in the week...

Kurt the vintage guy was doing the smaller show one last time today, so I tried to be strategic about what I picked up:

Got a key card in the Deckle Edge Set
A couple fun ones from the mid 60's
One Big Rookie from the 1956 Topps Set

Why would I go after these two guys?
Well, because they are from Minneapolis and Saint Paul, of course!
I was looking for some good luck for this important double header - what better way than to invoke the name of Mr. Cub?
Well loved card but well worth it!

Still Reaching for that Kennys Vargas Topps Rainbow - Chrome Edition

Oh, Kennys.
Poor fella, stuck on a roster with Miguel Sano. If Trevor Plouffe gets traded this offseason, you may be back in business, but for now you're stuck pinch hitting late in games and spending the rest of the day at the end of the bench. Hard to mash taters from there.

In the meantime, I'm trying to get a jump on all of his parallel cards in 2015 Topps. Just have a few left to go! Let's take a look at Topps Chrome today:
Sorry for the poor photography I had poor lighting options and not a lot of time to put these together...
First is the Topps Chrome base card, then the refractor, and at the bottom the "prism" refractor.

 Blue, Pink, and Sepia parallels...

And the insert - Chrome Commencements, which features several new guys that were in their second season.

So, I'm still looking for Purple, Gold /50, Orange /25,  Red /5,  and the 1/1 Superfractor, which if I ever find I will not be able to afford... If you see Kennys in any of those parallel versions, let me know!

I am still looking for the Series One Topps Clear Acetate /10 as well. The person that finds this card is going to get some really cool stuff from me, yes indeed.

From the Diamond to the Gridiron

I really dig the cards of guys playing an unfamiliar sport. There are plenty of cards documenting Michael Jordan's odyssey in the minors, but here are a few NFL stars featured on baseball cards:

Who could it be? What's a Boll Weevil look like?

 Recognize him now?

I think football was the right choice for Ricky.
You know which John this is, right?

 Yep, that's the guy!

Good old Topps Archives, nice work!

I won't badger you to guess which Super Bowl winning (and losing) QB this is . . .
It's Russell Wilson!

Just a fun little diversion. There seems to be a little more overlap between MLB and the NFL than the other pro leagues.
