My Twins Frankenset: Page 14

I've seen a few FrankenSets out there - for example John has a Braves set and a Uniform Number Set, Tom has a Cubs set, Nick has the Dime Box FrankenSet, Robert has a serial numbered card set, Night Owl has a night card set. Jeff's got a White Sox FrankenSet. I'm sure there are many others. Tell me about yours in the comments!

I decided this would be a good way to at least start organizing my Twins cards.

My own "rules" for the set are pretty simple -
1. Each card should be a Twins player in a Twins uniform (and exclude multi-team cards)
2. If at all possible, each page should have 9 unique players and 9 unique sets
3. Have Fun (Mandatory)

Here's Page 14:
 and the backs . . .

119 - Bert Blyleven 1989 Donruss

Mostly newer stuff on this page, balanced out by the '66 Harmon.

  1. That Carlo Gomez trade did not work out well for the Twins....

    1. No, the Twins should have kept JJ Hardy a little longer- I think they made a good trade of Gomez for Hardy, but a terrible trade of Hardy to Baltimore. The Twins had Span, Revere, and Hicks in the system when Gomez was traded for Hardy, so CF was deep and SS was thin.

    2. It just sucked that Hardy put up one of his worst years for Min and had 4 very productive years with Baltimore. The actual thought process behind the trade was very good. No one could have though Gomez would develop the way he did.

    3. There were a lot of excuses from Hardy and from the Twins on his way out. I was pretty excited about getting Gomez in the Johan Santana trade, and I was also happy to get Hardy for Gomez since the Twins desperately needed a SS. Hardy was being asked to not try to pull everything, which he took to mean, don't pull anything. There was talk that the Twins were messing with his swing, something similar to David Ortiz and Carlos Gomez's complaints about the Twins' staff. The Twins were upset with the way Hardy disclosed his injuries in 2010, and the team's trainers had been in hot water several times by local media and fans for their side of the story with Hardy as well as other players on the team. There is probably some truth to it on both sides, but I think it ended up being a poor fit for Hardy even though the Twins could have really used his bat in 2011 - 2013.

    1. Classic Bert, I've probably seen 50 or 60 of that card in my collection at one point or another...
