Card Show Part One: Vintage

I thought this show might end up being one for the birds...

Was looking for some specific things, but kept coming up empty. Talked to several vendors and was having a good time, but not really buying many cards...
Found just one to add from the 1956 set, but it was a good one.

Matty!

The coolest dude in LA, Ryne Duren. Sunglasses in the inset photo is what does it for me.

I hadn't planned on it, but it looks like I'm slowly putting together a 1954 Braves Team set... In Cooperstown I found a cheap Gene Conley (the 6'8" pitcher), a while back at this same card show I found a Warren Spahn that was well loved.. so, that's three! You can probably guess which one is going to be toughest to add in this quest...

Speaking of Braves, I saw this one and couldn't pass it up:
John - do you need this one to finish a team set? Traded sets used to be really low-tech, I can appreciate that.

Part Two will cover a new challenge I've started for myself.

  1. Great cards ! I really like that Ed Mathews one...As for the Aaron, it's of course on my elusive wantlist, but it's impossible to find copies (even really beat up) for less than 100-$150. Ah well.

    1. Yeah, I see 1954 Aaron (and also 1954 Ernie Banks) as cards / investments. If I do pull the trigger on one, I would want to get a really clean copy, then put it in a safe deposit box. Kind of makes me not want it as much since it is such a precious item...I'd almost be scared to have it in my house!

    2. that's something I don't really need to worry about...I could have all the T206 and Goodeys and Mantles in the world, burglars would just leave them alone, having no idea what they are. Not that I actually need to worry about THAT either. The simple joys of not having any money...

  2. That's some sweet '60s custom "airbrushing" on that Uecker. Always good to see any of the Alous pop up in a blog post, too. Nice finds!
