I purchased some sealed vintage wax packs awhile back - Here's one of 1979 O-Pee-Chee
There are ten cards to a pack, I just know there's a Met in this one. I'm very tempted to bust it open and see what other cards might be in there! It's very hard to resist, so thankfully I bought two. Here's what I saw when I opened the pack:
Two cards get eaten by gum and wax, respectively, so here's most of the pack. I think Joaquin is my favorite, I'm a fan of the rainbow sunrise Astros uniforms...
But
wait
what's
this?
I have to say that I never, ever, ever, get the "hit" in a pack or box of packs. Pulling Ozzie's Rookie card is definitely the best card I've ever gotten out of a pack in my life. Sweet sideburns, dude.
I'm less tempted to open that other pack now.
I'm geared more towards vintage, so this made me happier than if I had pulled a relic or auto - what is the best pack you've ever opened? Is there any single card that made you do a little happy dance?
That's a pretty good pack.
ReplyDeleteNiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
ReplyDeleteAwesome sauce!
ReplyDeleteVery nice pack!!
ReplyDeleteWhoa Nellie! I mean...Whoa Ozzie! Nice card of the Hit King, also.
ReplyDeleteWow! Keep that wrapper. Very cool design.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the wrappers alone on sale on ebay - I guess there is a market for everything! I agree, these older wax wrappers are pretty cool. I've got several of them from 1979 and 1978 just chillin in a little ziplock baggie. I'm not sure how best to store the empty wrapper. The full packs fit nicely in team bags...
DeleteI have a full run of Topps baseball wrappers for the 70's. I have them in two pocket pages. They fit pretty good if opened and laid flat
DeleteThat's a good way to do it, Mark - I might try that! I'll have to see if the shop that's hosting this weekend's show has 2-pocket pages.
DeleteThe show down near me has every type page imaginable. Let me know how you make out. I can send you a few.
DeleteCool - I'll do that. I'll for sure have a post up about the show on Saturday or Sunday.
Deletea 1 of 1 elway was the best pull I ever had. and yeah I did a happy dance. congrats on the oz pull, and the rose too!
ReplyDeleteI would dance for any 1/1 - but pulling one of your favorite players as a 1/1 must have been extra special! Very cool.
DeleteSweet Nice pull for Vintage.
ReplyDeleteThat's the first sports set I ever collected. When I got back into baseball cards after abandoning it c. 1992, that was the first set on my priority list to finish off.
ReplyDeleteVery Cool - I have to say I prefer the O-Pee-Chee logo to Topps on the 1979 set.
